ive got a interstate battery, 340 cold cranking, 450 cranking amps.

I also have a holly red fuel pump producing the fuel.

I am unsure what the charging system puts out on the 56 cube omc, do you think it would be enought to handle the fuel pump. I dont have anything else draining power except trim/tilt.

If i put it on the charger every so often, it should be alright, right?

If you are using that battery as a starter battery, and running other things from it like radio, etc, that is a pretty lightweight battery. It is taxing your charging system pretty hard.

My dad sells lawn mower batteries with more CCA than that.

Your best bet is to pick up a deep cycle. That way it will have the reserve to run your fuel pump, etc, and the charging system will maintain the battery. Better safe than sorry in my book.

i run a lawnmower battery in my boat, merc trim and 3 gauges, and a holley blue no problems and i never charge it. you could hit it with a triclke charge and prolly get more life out of it. on my new fi motor i run a 4wheeler battery, haven't had a problem yet

56 cube omc battery 500 cca (620 mca) reserve capacity 60 amp hour,altenator 6- amp non- regulated. did not give hp. & year this may or may not be for your engine. do not use a deep cyl for starting engine.

my omc is an early 90s split port motor. the only electronics i run is tach and trim.

So far so good with the lawn battery.

As the family Busines is Mason battery, a wholesaler of Marine Batteries, auto/truck/RV, I can say you can use a Deep Cycle battery to crank your engine.

They make Deep Cycle lawn mower batteries, and motorcycle batteries. They have come a long ways in technology on small batteries like the lawn mower and motorcyle. I use a small motorcycle battery to crank over my 49.9 850CCMH. It lasts about a weekend of racing and then it is dead. Of course I don't have the charging coil connected either.

If you are worried about weight, use the smaller battery, it will get you by if you buy a very good one with a lot of reserve and CCA. Be carefull of a non gell cell in the smaller batteries like a motorcycle. Some manufactures sell them with Cranking Amps and not Cold Cranking Amps. There is a big difference.

On my 90 yammi, lawn mower batt, trim used all day, multiple starts, we stop often. never charge it, no problems.
