Old Boats, Old Motors, Old Drivers, All Having Fun

Last Tuesday my friend and I took our boats to Greenwood Lake New Jersey. Here are some photos of the day. The green boat is a 1975 De Silva with a Merc 55H wannabe (bottom half is correct ,top is newer 1960 44 cu.in. powerhead with electric start). She will do an honest gps 60 mph with my nephew driving. I probably never see more than 50 mph. Too chicken.
The red boat is a 1972 Allison which usually has a much bigger (and older) motor than the 25 hp Mariner that's on it now. Both are lotsa fun and made for a great day!

Looks like a great lake from the map. Ive heard rumor that the Antique'rs used to hold meets there. Im guessing if your goin that fast theres no speed limit? Ive been in Hopatcong, Cranberry & Wallenpaupack but not there. Is there public access?

Speed Limit? That’s a good question. I do not believe there is a speed limit on weekdays. On the weekends I probably couldn’t break a 35 mph limit due to the waves from boating traffic.
I’m not sure if there were Antique Outboard meets here but there were boat races. They stopped I’m guessing 10 years ago because there were too many weeds at the south (NJ) end of the lake where the races were held (Brown’s Point I believe). Actually there will be a boat show at Breezy Point Inn on July 17 this year. The picture of the two boats I posted was taken at Breezy Point where we just had a great lunch. Breezy Point is on the west side of the lake and almost as far north as you can go (NY end).
I launch at Sportsman’s Marina which is about halfway up the west side of the lake. Launch fees there are $10 weekdays, $20 weekends. I don’t know of any free launch sites.
I am familiar with all the lakes you mentioned except Cranberry. Where is that? How are the launch sites? Don

Cranberry's on 206, has the old suspension footbridge. The lake's small, I went off season too. Theres was a free ramp then but I soon found out the speed limits 35... by a well armed ranger lady. She was nice, no 'write up'

Two of the faster Switzers to ever hit the water.

First picture is Ed Tweed of Mc Henry, IL running a GL 20 on the Fabulous Fox. Motor is a Quincy OMC. Could run low to mid 90's all day long any day of the week on a blue face 100 MPH Keller. The year was 1981.

Secons picture is Tom Harrod, then of Bettendof, IA running GL 21 on the Mighty Mississippi. Another 90 MPH Switzer running a Quincy OMC. Also 1981. Tom now owns Southside Outboard in Paducah, KY. If you're in the area and looking for a dealer, give Tom a call. 270.443.5626
