It took me more than two hours to download it because I have to use the communist Hughes network, but it was well worth it. I wish I had a DVD to put it up when I wanted to. It brought back a lot of memories from those days.

I didn't watch the whole U-Tube video, as Jim Jost had given me a 16 MM copy of this film and I showed it for a long time to my school kids....I've been working the L.A. Boats Show and have someone walk up behind me and say, "Ron Hill's boat isn't as fast as others, but he drives it well." I don't need to turn around, I know it it one of my old students!!

I finished 14th, I think that year, I broke 8 prop shafts off. Rich Hallett built that twin so it could NEVER blow over, but damn it ran hard on the sponsons.

After Havasu, my dad and took the front decks off, lightened every piece of wood we could see. extented the center wing section about 6 inches forward and moves my *** back about 18 inches and we moved the tank bank 24 inches. Then we added full length alumin um air traps like a kilo D Hydro, At Havasu we ran 85 MPH, and Parker, four months later we could run 98mph. I finished second at Parker after 9 hours, I lost by a foot, to Jerry Walin and Alan Stinson. Dewey Berghauer was my co-driver...

Watching that old film, that was my Sea Jay, at the Miami 225, I was 4th when I broke a crank. I saw several pictures of that "WEDGE" Sea Jay, a very fun boat to drive.


In this era, when the race ended, I never wanted to put the boat back on the trailer. I wanted to race a few more hours. There may have been DANGER, but the thrill of driving some of those boats always out weighed any thoughts of danger...

My brother always had a says, and this was it, "You were what your were when..." When you see my avatar and I'm driving that Hallett Twin.....They had used my boat to film some stuff for ABC's Wide World of Sports...The Governor's son raced with us, we got front page coverage on the L.A. Times and the Arizona Republic...Racing with Billy Seebold, Renato Molinari, Ceasar Scotti, Billy Don Pruitt, Jimbo, Kenny Kitson, Deny and Dewey Berghauer, Sanders and Posey...Running as hard as you could run for 8 hours.........Those were the days of the Outboard World Championship...125 or more boats...

Ron,
Ray Wood of Southern Maryland bought a Sea Jay from OMC . Powered it with a Twister the first year they were made.
There is a picture of it on the Notables Region 3, 4, 5 .thread
Rays' only race in the boat was the Divisional at Piney Point where he blew it over in the second lap. Damanaged it pretty bad.
Believe it was early 70;s
