In the fall ‘89, I wrote this article about the sand cast Mercury thunderbolts, and it was printed in the April ‘90 issue of the Antique Outboarder Mag. I did this knowing that there would be some mistakes and some disagreements about the article. Bob Grub, whom I highly resects and is well know for his knowledge about Mercury outboards, had some question about said article. The first was about the history of my serial numbers, his and mine did not agree. The numbers that I had were given to me by my old boss at Mercury and came from their records, I can only assume that they are correct. The second item was my lack of mentioning the KF-9HD, I would like to clarify that they were listed, but neither I nor my boss knew what they were. Soooooooooooo out of my stupidly, they were left out. The third was the mistake of calling my KG-9Q an H, so thank you again Bob, I now know the difference between an H and a Q. :)
