This Merc engine has a CDI mag system and I would like to install a kill switch. What type:confused:: 2 wire, 3 wire and what wires in the system are used for the hookup without damaging :eek:the CDI system?

Thanks

2 wire (normally open) circuit for ignition kill.

Connect (close) Salmon colored lead from switchbox through kill switch to ground (engine block) to kill.

Many later Mercs have a terminal on the switchbox marked black/yellow for this same purpose.

Hope this helps.

Jerry I just want to make sure I understand the hook up. The only salmon colored wire comes out of the top of the switch box and terminates at the top right corner of the switch box by a screw secured connection to a plastic block that is insulated from the engine block. Am I to place the normaly open switch between this connection and engine ground, so upon activating the kill switch this salmon wire goes to engine ground?:)

Thanks

I'm not looking at a motor (don't have one of these), but the info provided came from 1973 Merc 200 service info...

Short answer, yes. Salmon to ground is ignition kill.

To be sure, check the manual at your local dealer. (not sure there was a manual for 25SS, but its Merc 200 based)

Those little plastic insulated blocks with a screw to attach the block and a second screw through a lug on a wire are single terminal blocks, meant to connect another wire to that circuit/wire. With what you describe, that wire goes nowhere, unless you connect something to it. Other motors I have use those as a kill switch terminal, or fishing 44's use one to connect the temp alarm sensor to the wiring harness... common little screw connector.
