Mercury 1250 6 inline

I'm the new guy here my question is the 1250 and 1250ss were they the same motor or was it more in common with the BP Model...Thanks

The 1250 is a fairly common motor, the BP is VERY rare

Thank you! I recently saw a video where the racer said he used a 1250ss with a speedmaster gearcase instead of his BP and went racing. I was wondering if there was a difference between a stock Merc 1250 like mine which doesn't say SS on my engine decal set and a Merc 1250 and does say SS on the decal...Thanks for your reply!!!!

SS = "Solid State" ignition, later known as "Thunderbolt ignition" = electronic ignition ( no points )

Huh I thought the SS was short shaft, no 1250 had points,,, I have a 69 1250 SBP center and lower with the steady reast for $1500 if anyone is interested

No, on a Merc it means Solid State and is even on long shaft motors of those few years
