Changing carb jets

when changing the jetting on the carbs, do you always change out both the main and slow speed jets or can you just change out the main jets...I don't want to drowned the motor with fuel at idle, but would like to get more fuel to it once I get going.

What kind of motor are you talking about. That would help people give you a better answer.

40 hp tohatsu carbs on a yamaha 25.

The simple answer is no, as a general rule you don't need to change out both. If it idles and accelerates off idle smoothly then the low speed jet/pilot circuit is fine. Change the mains and go from there.
