60 hp vs 70 hp evinrude

On the later 56 inch motors, what are the differences? I can get a good clean 1996 60 for cheap, but i also have a 1987 70. Someone mentioned that the tuner is better for top end on the 60. If so, on my little 13 allison, could i simply switch out the carbs and have the 70 carbs on the 60 for a better top end?

Is this correct?

Not positive but I think the 96 is and oval port block and your 87 should be a bridge port. What I've ready and seen says the bridge port blocks have better top end. They might be talking about the SST60 exhaust being better for top end? I'm sure someone that knows some more about the tripples can answer this.

Forget the 1987 70, you need at least a 1975-1987 75, much faster than the 70. The 70 is a too-much-detuned 75. The 56 c.i. motor has more punch, I've heard (I raced the 75, quit in 1985 before the "60" came out), and the racing version (SST-60 class) pulls 90-100 hp.

The 1987 70hp is a permanment cast 56 cu in bridged exhaust motor. It should be a better motor all around than the 60 which is a oval port motor. I've never played with the exhaust tube length in a fishing motor version. I would think if you made the exhaust tube the same length as the SST60 it should perform well.

Thanks for the correction/info, I never ran the 56 c.i. motors and should have done my
homework before writing.
