OMC Looper, change from stock to 12v fuel pump?

Hi,
Any feeling for or against an electric fuel pump on a little '72 two hole looper 50 HP electric start?
The stock fuel pump is a 3 hose barb vacuum style.
I think the stock pump puts out 5-7 lbs of fuel pressure, would a 12v fuel pump need a regulator to keep it at that pressure or is a little more pressure better?
Would this set up need to incprporate a fuel return line back to the tank?
Would I just cap off the vacuum hose that used to activate the fuel pump?

I assume that the existing pump is working correctly. That said what do you intend to gain by making a more complicated fuel system? There will be no performance gain from the change so what do you see as making the electric pump more desireable.

I believe the stock one is the reason why I have limited higher rpms, and the plastic hose barb and that o-ring I feel could have been better engineered,

I like simple so maybe i'll just get a new OEM pump.

I agree, even a modified motor will not outrun the stock pump if it is functioning correctly.

Another thought. First one for the day. There might be an issue with the fuel lines that could have been caused by running gas with ethanol. Some fuel lines will not tolerate it. if a fuel line colapses then your high power fuel flow could become restricted. The other thing that might be checked is the fuel filters and strainers. If you have a built in tank or portable these at times have a primary strainer that can get restricted over the years. Might be worth a check.
