Does anyone out there have experience with repairing aluminum outboard crank case half with Dura Fix rods?
I have just repaired Erin Barth 175cc engine using this rod. The case cracked all around near the mounting surface and with a hole about 1/2" in diameter in one of the transfer ports. The 175 was made from a blown-up 350cc Konig. The Dura Fix seems to attach to the aluminum very good. The repair is somewhat like brazing.

Are you saying it broke after repairing with dura fix?

Not yet!!!!
Have you tried to repair anything with Dura Fit? If yes, how did it preform?
bill,thats not a good idea to weld a crankcase using durafix...overheating will chance the structure of the crankcase.....find a local good tig welder.....Mr Lo

Kinda late...it's already done. Out here in God's country there are not many tig welders if any. The case was ready for the trash before I made it into a 175cc engine by machining two cylinders off the 3500cc Konig. After it ran 4 or 5 times it came apart and was ready for the trash again. Maybe this fix will let the young lady race some more in 2012.....hope so. I also think the case would have gotten hotter if it was tig welded. The melding point of Dura Fix is something like 735 degrees F.
Anybody else have any experience using this stuff??

I'd agree with Mr Lo, Tig is the only way to go.
This stuff is way harder than ally, & you have to get the whole job hot as your using a gas torch that when it cools the ally has a much greater expansion than the dura fix you build up stresses as it cools.
I'd love to know what's been done to this Konig & how.
