If you had a 40 hp merc and was installing 60 carbs which reeds would you go with , he offers 3 different styles.Available in Sport, Race and Drag versions . I am planning on letting it turn up between 6500-7000 rpms

call him and ask which one's he recommends at that rpm range. He will know best since he is the one that makes them.

the drag reeds will be thin and short lived but respond well. You will be best of with the sport reeds if you are playing with the boat. Chris is a good friend of mine . He will lead you straight!!

I was under the impression that the sport reeds were the thinnest he made and they increased in thickness to the racing and to the drag reeds.
I ate up a set of sport reeds really quick (less than 10 hours) running mostly around 6000 but up to 6400.

Other way around for durability
Race reeds may need to be changed in less than an hour of running time because they are thin and break easily.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'll be looking at other, more durable reed options then, because the durability just wasn't there for me with the sport reeds.

You should not tear them up that quick. was it popping back through the carbs? I usually get a couple a seasons out of a set.

From What Ive read you want to eliminate lean idle cough & be sure the timing is compatible, They can be blown out backwards but should work ok as intended. Metal reeds can withstand coughing.

No , not on a set of race reeds. We would change them ea. day on the drag motors. But a set of sport reeds will last a long time if the motor runs smoothly.
