A lady contacted me about this MK 50 electric start she had in her barn.
took a look at it and had to buy it! I figured I should share it with you guys.
I hope to put it on a 14-16 foot runabout of some type maybe a Alumacraft.
I would feel comfortable saying it has less than a couple hours of use on it and it has been sitting for 30-40+ years unused.

WOW What a find
I cut my teeth working on those in the late 50's. This will be a fun restore.
I would go through it and replace all seals, rings, impeller, and inspect all bearings.
Enjoy...It will be fun finding the right boat for it.

As of now im not sure I want to take it down to far it looks like new.
i was hoping to replace impeller clean fuel system, replace or seal floats and clean up the ignition and hope for the best. It may never of been run it looks like it the is no carbon/oil inside the exhaust in the tower.
or it ran long enough to get oil all over it and then something broke and it got put away....

Please let me know if you are interested in selling your MK 50 and controls.
I would like to use it on my Feather Craft-- for show.
Thanks Bill P

I had one like that and used the front cover plate for years because I liked the straight lines but mostly because of the solid brass emblem. Edgar Rose noticed once at a National inspection when I won CSH with it and was envious. Seems like one of his first projects at Mercury was to design that for Carl himself based on a Chrysler car emblem. Kiekhaefer raced Chrysler stock cars in NASCAR and wanted something similar to the crown Chrysler used. The cast brass piece was fairly rare as more were built later with a cheaper plated aluminum or zinc part. Anyway, Edgar invited me to dinner later but couldn't talk me out of the emblem. I still have it on a 30-H in the basement.

I kind a feel like I know stuff about Mercury Outboards. My dad became a dealer in 1949, so I grew up with Mercury Outboards.....though my dad never had a retail Mercury store.
I never saw or heard about the gold Chrysler face plate. Does Edgar know how many were produced? They were on Mark 50's??? Correct.

Hi Ron,
From my old dealership info the Mark 50 was a one year production engine. Modern cowls and cast block which bridged the gap from the Mark 40 to the Mark 55. The S/N range from my data is 790630 thru 832503. The engine looks great! I have a fully restored one that I show at AOMCI meetings which has won best of show on occasion.
