Hi, I am looking for some advice ?.
I see on the UIM calendar for 2013, SST200 World championships in Trenton - Michigan, 19 - 21 July 2013.
What kit is needed to run this race ?
I know Optimax 200xs, but what boat ? DO YOU NEED CRASH BOXES AND AIR BAGS ETC ???.
Any help-advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Carl

Carl I would go to the OPC.com web site and look up the rules accordingly. Or try the APBA site. You should find all info there...

carl any type boat is legal in sst200 or as uim calls it free. You must have a capsual & 5 point harness. Capsual must meet testing of 4000 newtons. Crash box & air bag have not made it to APBA so you do not need them. OPC website has the rules for boat under OPC rules classes (sst 200). Hope to see you in Trenton.

OK I think I have answered my own question, by reading through some old SSt200 threads, looks like no crash boxes and no airbags !.

Next question is how easy would it be to find couple of competitive hulls for this for 2 drivers from Europe ?
Just thinking ???????.
What would it take to put something together, for this race ?

Sorry and Thanks, Dave, looks like we posted about same time !!.
Its not for me to race, but I do have couple of European drivers in mind for this. Think it could be interesting !!!

Carl: Hulls are no problem here in the U.S. Any 16-foot or larger tunnel boat will qualify and they are tucked away in garages nationwide. The issue here is engines. There are only about 10 or so of the OptiMax engines in use here in the U.S. As of now the SST-120 engine is legal in the 200 class in the U.S. but I am not sure if that is up for debate at the annual meeting next month or not. Good luck. We would love to see some European drivers over here. Dana Tomes.

I think they now require a 6-point harness...

Carl ,
Brian Tabara in MN has at least 1 boat for sale. I believe it is a pugh, and the Pugh's seem to handle the Opti fairly well. There are more drivers every year moving over to the Opti engine. I would not be suprised to see 12+ opti's on the water in 2013. If you are interested in having someone state side assist you in finding a rig(s). I would be morethan happy to assist, if you want just send me a PM with your contact information. There have been European teams in the past that have had all of thier equiptment shipped over in a container too.

Pete Nydahl has 2 Seebolds for sale on this site they are 17 footers the Opti would work well on them.

Thanks for the info guys. I have been doing a little research. Looks to me like the circuit in Trenton is quite compact. I would guess lap times would be low 30 seconds !!!!.
My question is do you need a Opti ? Is a good sst120 going to be faster on this circuit ? My thinking is sst120 boats and engines should be easier to find.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks
Carl

Carl your research is correct most of the races here try to run a 35 second lap. Yes a good 120 driver & boat has a chance on a 35 second course. Terry Rinker is our best 120 & was not beaten last year by the 200s. In the last 2 years these Opti guys are getting dialed in & getting faster each year. They are all good drivers. If you go to www. romesburgmedia.com & click on Huntington race this will give you a good look at the 120 vs 200 on a 34 second course. Im not sure want lap times were at Trenton last year others on here would know better then I.
