sst60 gearcase mods?

Im running a sst60 motor with the original gearcase on a sst60 boat. I was wondering if there is anything you can do for a low water pick up without putting a bobs nose cone on? I have heard of some people cutting grooves in the case. Any help would be nice, thank you

Here in Canada, that gearcase is worth $1,500 used, I would get a nitro gearcase and do all the mods you want on it but I would leave the sst60 gearcase alone.
