Could someone explain what the bypass cover on an omc outboard does? all I can figure is that it is a vacuum chamber for the fuel pump? I noticed the 25hp and the 30hp 31.8 (in 1995) were different but what makes them different? Thanks,
Buddy

Its the cover over the transfer port therefore gets pressure and vacuum in it hence operates the fuel pump

Should there be a big enough difference to be worth swapping the 25hp cover for the 30hp cover?

The part numbers are different between the 1995 20-25hp and the 1995 30-35hp. Id rather not order one and pull mine off just to find its identical. Or has a dimension that can be easily modified.

The cover is not where the hp difference is
At a guess the porting in the block is different so the cover is made to fit that?
25 to 35 is also the venturi size in the carb

After further investigation, it appears the difference is a small hose fitting above the fuel pump. I feel more relieved now. Thanks for the explanations!
