By chance is the 50hp 2cyl mid section the same as the 3cyl mid section? Prob not I'm sure but just wanted to double check. Thanks

the top is different BUT the same lowers bolt up

Bummer oh well. Ok next ? I found a 1969 55hp johnson 3cy short shaft can I use that mid on a mid 70s long shaft 75hp stinger to make it a short shaft stinger ?

99% sure you can but the part number is probably different due to the shift cable routing.

No the 69 55 is electric shift and after 73 they had a shift rod to shift the lower unit

yes but that rod goes through the swivel housing not the exhaust housing, somewhere here there was someone that did that swap, I cant see a show stopper anywhere but I guess I need to be looking at the parts to work that out.

You need to drill out at the top of the steering arm in order for the shift shaft to fit when you put the lower unit on..on some of them she is a really tight fit. You can also adapt the shift shaft of a two cylinder that slides through the hole better as it does not have the offset but you need to change how it attaches to the shifter atthe bottom of the power head.
