I have a 2 cylinder 97 Yamaha 30hp and am wondering what, if any, mods can be done to it? Carb swap, timing, head milling, porting, reeds etc? I am not having much luck finding discussion or aftermarket stuff for this motor. BTW it will be pushing a side console 14' flats boat.

All of the above. Stay away from exhaust or keep it to a minimum. You can't give up bottom end.

Thanks for the response. I'm not having much luck finding specifics for this motor.
1. How much to take off the head
2. This motor has the flower style reeds and I cant find any aftermarket upgrades
3. What carbs would work if there are gains to be found
4. I could clean and probably open the ports up but it would be nice to hear real world experience with internal mods

THAT, engine had a limited production. They are not everywhere like other models. I would suggest swapping that out to a 3cyl 30. The 3cyl has a better support system to mod from. People have done them and seen great results. If that's not and option, shave your head .030 and no more. Maybe try to find a larger carb??? That motor would have to be at a shop where it could be cut, assembled, checked for clearance and compression, over and over till you saw good numbers. You going to/ or mailing parts back and forth would kill you. Just not worth all the trouble in my book. And as you stated, petal reeds, not much chance of finding a set aftermarket. Or any other spare parts for that motor.
