Hinton 77

I'm having trouble finding any information on the PRO Nationals that were at Hinton in 77. There is nothing in the Propeller magazine on it and I was looking for the results. The runabout winners are listed in an ad for DeSilva boats but that is the only information I can find.

That's kind of weird Dale, although now that you mention it, I don't recall the results in Propeller either. I did a story on it for Powerboat. I will scan and send what I wrote about the 1977 Nationals.

I will gladly take the article and if you have anything on 78 in San Antonio as there isn't much on those Nationals either. Thank you very much Wayne and Bruce , I knew somebody would have it.

Being a Region 10 boat racer the name Hal Telford is very familiar to me. Watched him race every weekend. There were lots of C Service boats both hydro and runabout in those days. I think he won both Nationals several times... and hade all the records also.

His dad, Pop Tolford, ran the Seattle Outboard Novice School back in those days.

Pop Augustine and my dad, Bill Weaver, were the race directors. Charlotte Queen was the referee. The race course was huge and this led to many accidents. I believe that the Oak Ridge Boys performed one night with fireworks. The Yamato factory sent a couple drivers to compete in 350cc Hydro. Some guys from Chicago stacked two 350 Yamatos to make a 700cc engine. This was the first time I saw a Yamato 80 which soon became Formula 350 and then 20ss hydro (Pugh's had this). Wayne's article describes the carnage well!
