Yamaha 40 crank bearings

When you pull the crank for a re build, how do you check your bearings? All 4 spin freely. Is there any good way to test them?

They should spin silently and with no play, it's usually fairly obvious when they've gone, they deteriorate quickly and make a lot of noise
