Allison Style Hydrofoil - Not Sting Ray

Hey Folks!

Question: Does anyone have any information and/or pics of what I think is called the "Allison" style hydrofoil???

I can remember seeing one somewhere, but I just cant remember where :eek:

I do remember that they are used by drag racers (mostly) and attach to the bottom of jack plates and set back brackets.

I'm interested in this style because unlike the hydrofoils that attach to the lower units and outdrives, this unit pops out of the water once the hull is on plane (....but without raising the engine - for those of us with hydraulic jack plates).

They appeared to be a pretty simple affair and I beleive I can build one - just wanted to see if anyone had some good pics or info to go by?????:cool:

I remember them being called "Whale Tail" back in the 90's - not sure if they still use the same.

Hey! I noticed there is a foil on the hull bottom as well as the lower unit.

Im interested in a foil that attaches to the bottom of the jack plate. When placed on the jack plate bottom the foil will pop out of the water (when the hull comes up on plane) without raising the engine.

Yep...whale tail is another name for the "stingray" style hydrofoil....but Im talking about something else - thanks for the reply.

I saw one on a boat that was for sale on the International Hydrostream Registry (about 5 years ago), and I know I printed out the pic......I just cant find it!

I will come up with some ideas of my own and do some experimenting.
