Here is the promo pack from OMC on the short lived SST 100 class engine. :(

Ya know, the absolute dumbest thing OMC did was make the 140 grow from 99.6 to 122 cubic inches. I normally believe size matters, and bigger the better...In this case, I ate every 122 cuber that ever ran me for lunch. Now that gearbox, I could have had some real fun with that!

Was this a cross flow or a looper ? I think it was a beautiful LOOKING motor .

If memory serves right it was a looper.
The problems it had however was 130 more lbs than the 99 cubic inch 140, larger gearcase, the same one the V-6's ran, and, where I could wind my 99 cubic inch 140 up to 8500 RPM, the 122 would be hard pressed to max 6500. Essentially, on a 17' Super Sport Switzer, it had the same weight as a V-6, with far less HP, and with the same size lower unit as the V-6, it was slower through the water than the old 99 cuber was. I know why OMC did it....Trying to save money all they did was cut two jugs off the V-6 mold and called it a 122. Same concept Chrysler did with the 3.9 V-6. It is a 318 with two less jugs. Even uses the same timing gears and chain, same tranny....

1991 Propeller magazine, inside cover page. Mike was a nut. I remember Mike and Gordy Miller getting tangled up at Kakakee in 100 class. Mike had his shoes riped off his feet.
Any photos of Rick Remley?

Was the yellow boat a seebold from Aurora,IL?? If so I have pictures of that boat.I owned it for a while.
Rick sold his Seebold (dark orange) to Mark Welch in Minnesota. Not really sure what happened to it after that.
Rick lived in Lake Villa, IL - Bill Gohr lived across the street from him.
I took both of those pictures in Aurora, IL

From June 1993 Propeller.
Same boat but #950 is Mark Welch.
I think Rick put up his racing helmet after the Big SST 100 crash in Kankakee.
I don't remember the year.

Here are a couple pictures of it when I got it home from Alabama. I later sold it on E Bay to a guy in Minn. or Wis.

Not sure what happened to the thread but this engine definately
has to be one of the coolest race motors ever ! Remember seeing
them run in Dayton and its a shame they never really took off.
Loop scavenged, super low center of gravity, and they just
absolutely rocked !

And if you wonder what happened to the class, Mercury re-introduced the SST120. On top of that, the 100 had a bad tendency to start "farting" as it ran. Kind of like it was dieseling. pre- igniting etc.

Isn't the boat in the Kankakee picture (#640) Buddy Wrights old Kramer hull? I believe Rick ran the Kramer for a year before he got the Seebold and changed his #.

Accually the (Kramer hull) wasn't a Kramer hull after I finished building it. I tore it down to the center section (cockpit sides) and built out from there. So you could say that boat was 95% Nelson and 5% Kramer. It did win a National Championship or two or three. It did pretty good.
I guess I did alot of work to the Seebold too. I added more angle of attack to the tunnel, changed the sponson angles, added the capsule, added the canopy and added a pod in the tunnel.
Funny thing about those pods. Rick had me take it out one time when a certain person at OMC told him they didn't work. Well I ended up putting it back in because it did more than they thought. Those pods are very important with positioning air lift in the tunnel. Most people don't know this.

I didn't know that you rebuilt the Kramer, I guess by the time you got to it, it really needed it considering the mileage it had. The last time I saw that boat, Jon Guimond won Kankakee with it. I wonder where it is now?

The Kramer,
was turned into splinters by Remley, the Seebold is here and restored, it's getting painted right now, it will be looking like the strangler boat in the brochure and have an original Super Strangler, it is now owned by Tiger but I will have take it it out and see if it still turns before John gets it, maybe we shoud get Remley down here and see if he can still drive, or maybe not.
Hey Largecar, if you raced it where's the canopy????? Before I pay Timmy for one?
You might need to be careful when testing the Seebold with the Strangler if it has a lot more power than Rick's motors. I added more lift to that boat so it's not a normal Seebold Champ Boat.
How many times has that boat crashed?

I never raced it Bill but the canopy was on it when I sold it to a guy in Wisconsin. It was complete with steering and fuel cell. I have a bunch of pictures of it at home if you need them.

I'll be OK, I weigh just a little more than Rick did and I don't think it will go as fast as my 04' Champboat. Any way I drove this thing back then, this Strangler won't be any stronger than what we had on it.
Large, was the guy in WI the guy in Janesville or Edgerton? Thats the guy who was gonna try and run it with what he called an SST 90. I just about tripped over this boat, it was laying in his back yard when I went there to buy the motor he was gonna use on it, he thought he had an original SST 90, unfortunately it wasn't, it was the 700X that I had on the back of Tiger's mod 50 boat, he had no idea what it was.
This boat was in the yard and he said he didn't know what it was but he was gonna race it with something on it. It was covered with a tarp except for the transom and the back of the sponsons, and when I walked by the boat and saw the sponsons angled forward with that small piece of crescent shaped wood it just made me think I saw this boat before, then I left and remembered that it was Rick's boat and I had saw it before, like everyday for 2 years.

It seems to me he was up around Janesville area. I can't remember the guys name but he had no idea about raceboats. I had to rig his trailer up to put the tunnel on it so he could get it home. He had some sort of medical problems and he didn't get around too good. He said he was going to make a lake toy out of it.

Well,
I think the new looper V-4
120 -140 came out 1985 and that was the only
year they used the bigger V-6 gearcase.
1986 and up was the same gear case as the old V-4.
I sold lots of those engines and very few problems.
A pretty good engine in my opinion. :)
1988 they went from 1.8 liter to 2 liter.

The 2.0L V4 was the most trouble free engine we had. If someone called in with a warranty claim for one I'd wouldn't believe it.

Those are not sst 100 boats in that picture. They might be mod 100 or formula 100.
I can't tell if this is Dennis Klepadlo or not. Yep, it's F 100 and or Mod 100.

I have a brand new SST-100 motor I would sell. And of course I have several SST-100 gearcases and midsections - cowlings - pretty much whatever you need. Also the V-8,V-6 and SST-Midsection are all the same pretty much. The SST-100 and V-6 take and adpator plate, which I have - the V-8 bolts right to the midsection. Also the V-8 midsection has a commercial grade trim ram. You can E-Mail me anytime for prices on these parts.

I would guess that was Mod 100, didn't matter we ran the same motor in each class, but the Mercs would change PH's, the 414 boat has a T2X looking motor so I would guess that is Mod.
largecar91

Looks like a T2X mid with a standard inline cowl and wrap. Formula 100 only allowed 4 carb venturis. Both were great classes. I know when they changed Mod 100 to Mod 110 and they got it right sleeving the 2 liter mercs to 110 cu in, it was all over. You just couldn't compete with the inlines and v-4's anymore. If I remember, the v6 Merc Mod 110 were not far off the pace of the champ boats of the day.
