hey guys,

if anyone is over on s&f or byuboys its wing nut.. or gottagofast247 from those boards.

anyway i just bought this boat off of ebay and ther is some info about it in the discription. the boat is said to have won the modvp championship race one year but doesnt say when.. i was wondering if anyone knew the history of this boat??

Glad you finally found us.

Here's some pictures of Mike Quindazzi in the #20 380 RAy taken at Grass Lake, IL in the Spring of 1982. If you bought this boat and it's in good shape, you bought yourself a great ride. You will enjoy it.

Somewhere I have some pictures of Mike running a 380 Ray at Havasu, Thanksgiving 1981. I don't remeber if it's the same boat, but if you're interested, I'll dig them up and post them. I do remember HE RAN!!!

that looks like the boat from ebay! ill know for sure when i pick it up this sunday (ill look for faded spots where the #'s were). as long as it hasnt rotted since then i think it will make a great bay/ drag?? boat:)

If its rotted you can fix it . Fiberglass dont rot , The wood does. Dig it out and redo it, only better then original . Fixing old fiberglass boat aint rocket science . Some parts rot and the main parts dont. A big grinder , coveralls and a dust mask [ and a shower when you are done] is all it takes, but dont expect to get a good nights sleep for a couple of days after a full days grinding , no matter how much you shower after you are done.

if that linik works look around there.. thats the vixen i rebuilt with the help of my dad and a friend. i did all of the grinding and most of the fiberglass work. its not the amount of work im worried about.. its the time i have to do it. i work 2 part time jobs, and im full time in college so time is not on my side.. haha

if its rotted i still have the boat purchaced and im not going to back out of the deal.. i just hope it isnt rotted b/c thats just that much longer it will take me to get it running. the fiberglass work doent bother me at all though. im actually in the process of repaing my hydrostream vixen after i crashed at about 90mph last summer. this boat is so i can have a bigger fast boat as well:)

Same Race #56 Joe Burgess. Runing a 380 Ray for Roark. Roark brought two 380's. This and a white #270. Don't remember who was in the white boat.

They ran Third and Fourth. Don't remember who finished where.

Talking to Chris Bush, this week, and realizing he's 45.....makes me realize my wife is right, I do live a lot in the past.....

BUT, GOD there were some GREAT MOD VP RACES in the PAST....

Looking at #9, my 19 Eliminator Daytona.....Holly Cow, how high must I have had the engine???...the boat is almost under water and the motor is sticking up in the air....

Brent Leach layed that boat up himself...We made some "CRAZY" inserts for the bottom....probably the only 19 Daytona that ever had a built in notched bottom of 6"....then, again, I never saw how Foster/Gilbreath inserted their 19 that they won Parker with...

Seeing Joe Burgess, brought back some great memories of a GREAT PERSON and a GREAT DRIVER...and put a tear in my eye...

I first met Joe at Havasu and he had THE BIG ORANGE MARINE ALLISON with a 150 on it, owned by a dentist...and I keep forgetting hjis name...Big Orange Marine had two boats and they blew the side out of one... I went up to the High School wood shop and talked the teacher into sawing us some pieces of plywood to fix it...

We all worked late into the night to fix that Allison...My dad, Joe, the Dentist and a guy named Roy, that had owned a Marine Shop in Edgeton, Wisconsin...15 miles from my wife's parent's house...Roy came to deliver some antique motors, I'd sold to Steve Mullholland, for him..We worked on that Allison..with an old ax....When we finished the job, Roy gave the ax to my dad...Roy died shortly after that and my dad's gone...but I have the AX...

Joe used my props on his JP's and I remember him winning a race at Kilowatt Marine Stadium in Memphis, TN... Joe was coming for the checker, and a slower boat went iinside, then, outside...as Joe got the checker, the guy went outside again. Joe tried to squeeze by but hit the end of a sea wall that was out in the water and he went nose first, kind of "*** over Teakettle"...Joe wasn't hurt...

The prop was a thru hub 26 cleaver and it flatten one blade right to the hub,,,,I mean like it was welded there...Now days, I'd cut it off and weld something to that hub....but then, I just told Joe to keep it as a trophy....

Chris Bush said a good capsule will cost $5,000.....He said, "If a caspule could save a life, you could go through the crowd and collect $5,000."

That wouldn't have been hard with Joe, as I would have put the first $5,000 up..

As Gary Garbrecht said not long ago...we were all a lot more INNOCENT then!!!

cool man, i think my boat was the one mike drove AFTER he went through the side of this boat. he told me after going threw the side he ran the calbe steering down the stringers b/c he got caught up in them going threw the side of that boat.

I talked to dad this weekend, Joe and Stevie drove the 56, finished 3rd (1st legal Mod VP boat he says) and the white boat delaminated. The 56 had a huge break in the side dad remembers from some contact on the course also, I'm pretty sure it can be seen in the picture posted in my next post.

We might have to see how your laser runs with one of those new 300xs optimax. Might make a decent ski race boat. You think the transome would hold up?

a buddy of mine had a 380 with a 300XS on it, ran 97 in bone stock form, can't remember what prop he had on it. I'd say it would make a great ski racer and would hold up just fine.

We put a 18 inch set back plate on my 1982 380 comp and hung a 225 Yamaha Excell on it for the Mississippi Qutlaw circuit. The shortest race was 150 miles on a 5 mile course with the longest being 500 miles on the Mississippi River. We did have the transom cabbeled for added strength. I think the 380 will do just fine with a 300XS out back. I know it`s gonna be fast!
