Went to Kelowna (Westbank) BC this past weekend for the WestSide Daze Grand Prix of bathtub racing.
Professional photography can be found here with some seriouis action shots too, except this is all Super-Modified, no stock class photos:

Lake Okanogan has some serious waves to it when it wants to, especially in the afternoon!

Anyway no action shots yet, I was driving but I did get these before hand - this is what the pits look like at a tub race.

Just like mini hydros!

The Saunders Race Team (282 is a member here).

Shawn coming in from practice, he runs super modified, 40mph or so...

Looks like you guys have a lot of fun. Name of the game right there. I know a racer from GA who gave up racing hydros (MOD) and a while later told us he started racing Tubs. Bobby Baker.

Never heard the n ame, I wonder maybe they have tub races across America that I'm not aware of.

THought I was the only American but it'd be cool to find others!!

The international Great Race is a week and a half away.......if I race it I'll be the only American entry :(

Kelowna got cancelled this year due to some disagreement between the powers that be and the sponsors....but hte other circuit races and the "Great Race" are still on!

I am the chairperson that sets up the Silverdale race here in the US, and Keyport has a race the same weekend (August)....plus the "big" race up north.

The tub goes almost 28mph......it runs average of 5th place with my weight in the stock class but could be set up for super modified (Cleaver prop, engine mods etc) - in which case you could probably get 35-40mph out of it.

Anytime I get to watch you guys in your tubs and your tubes in that rough water I do it. Your the unique water bashers of your time in what is an extreme aspect of a or corner of the motor sport. :)

The tub handles great in rough water!

The transom is built on the back of the tub, plywood wrapped in Kevlar/glass.

how much dose it cost to build one?

Probably cost about $1500 to do it raw *IF* you had a mold for the hull - and tunnel hulls are out - it's been tried many many times....
The Binocci hull is by far the most used and best hull, they started those in I thi nk 1980 or so...that's what mine is.

I paid $1500 for the hull and insert but I know there was a profit margin there, realistically at least $1500 plus paint.

Then an engine, etc.

I've probably got $4000 to $5000 in mine including the new fancy paint.
