So sorry to hear of the passing of Angelo Vessena. He was a dear friend, great competitor and boat racing ambassador. We spent many fun hours together on and off the race course. Our prayers are with him and his family. R.I.P.

I strongly believe performance and racing outboards is good to promote and sell more outboards.
The new Evinrude E-TEC G2 is already a great success. Lots of power and best in fuel economy. On top of that the cleanest outboard in the world.

I wish Evinrude took my advice and started a performance division for us that love speed and competition...

AS Wayne says, if it's a previous image that is already there under managing attachments it works. But if you go in to your files & try to pull up a new image not used before, it doesn't work. Also, when you go in to the manage attachments by way of advanced everything is scrambled

Lars, Great video. Having never seen a F1-V8 race, it looks like they were brutally hard on the boats from the video. Can you walk a non-driver through how it was to be in the cockpit of one of these beasts. The jetty start. The first turn. The acceleration. Had to be amazing to drive.
Thanks for all the posts and photos.

I have been asked what really happen to Francois Salabert of France.
Here is a short story with a very sad end..

My former OE class and F1-V8 friend/racing buddy Francois Salabert was racing the F1-V8 series very successfully from 1981 to 1989 in Europe and the USA. I think he won a F1-V8 race, maybe two..Always driving for Velden Racing. (Salabert also raced the F1-V8 race in Bristol 1982)
(First two pictures below)

Late, (after the 1989 season) OMC cut back on the US F1-V8 racing and Salabert went to Mercury and raced the ON 2 liter series 1990..
He started up the 1990 season by winning Parker Enduro.
Third picture

Next big race was Bristol 1990 but tragedy hit Salabert. He crashed hard in to the Bristol wall and we lost him.
Fourth picture.
See attached video. 1.20 minutes in you can see the bad crash.
Salabert was extremely popular and we lost a great person/friend.

What a tragic end to someone so young with a promising racing career Lars. Reminds me of the tragic death of Erwin Zimmerman whom I sure you remember who just started racing with Mercury after a very successful career racing kneel down alkies. The last time I talked to Billy Seebold he told me he liked his wins at Bristol, and he didn't say this, but I could tell by talking to him it was because it was because it was so challenging, dangerous, and he was successful. I had asked him about his favorite race course, and his answer "Bristol" surprised me.

HeeHee Wayne, I do my best.
I have never raced at Weser River in Karlshaven.
Not so good at German SD/SE drivers 1976 but can tell the #11 cat is a Velden, the #154 is a Clerici model year 1973.
The # 21 & 44 is Swedish built V-bottom boats. If I remember right the brand was Gambler 45.
PS...after my year with Konig (1977) I know most of the German OE drivers and my favorite without question was Hans George Krage.

Too many subjects to comment on at the same time, but I must first say it was a shock and very sad thing to hear about Tom Percival. As far as the photo I mentioned Lars, you are right. That was a Marlboro patch. The photo you told me I knew who was in the picture was easy because Joachim Mareth had his name running down the sleeve. And it was not so easy identifying Cees Van Der Velden from behind. I hoped mentioning his foot on the Velden boat might be a clue. As far as the motor, I'm sure I can find some other photos, and even thought I was freezing, I took a lot of pit shots. I will see what I have.

To Ron Hill,

Dear Ron,

Please help me put the 4 photos on Boat Racing Facts this time, next time I train my son.

Picture 1

My SE Boat from 1974, I won the European SE Championship 1973,74,75 and 76.
At that time there was no World title for the SE class.

Picture 2

Poster of my Aspen/Evinrude F1 V8 Boat 1983, Stockholm GP, very big race part of the world Championship that year downtown Stockholm, 250,000 spectators.

Picture 3

A little story and photo in Swedish about me, but very interesting so please put it in.
I Translate one day. (Maybe)

Picture 4

World famous Erik Eriksson and Lars, I think Marina Del Ray, CA
Erik Eriksson was a good friend of mine, and a close friend to Ron Hill.

He past away in a Helicopter crash a few years ago, and Ron asked me for a Picture of Erik

Regards

Lars

Lars, you are good to go. Look for an email from me about your password. Time to start bragging about all those races! :)[/QUOTE]

First, I need to say thanks Mark75H to help me get started at BRF.

This is just a test, and I will be back soon to tell you who I am and my
long background in the Outboard Business and a very successful internationell
Outboard Racing career.
Evinrude and OMC has been a big part of my life.

Thanks

Lars "Lasse" Strom

Wow..I missed the 10 years anniversary for me at Boatracingfacts.com. Remember when I signed in "Join Date 01-22-2008" but could not figure out how to start a thread. I did send Ron Hill an email and he and Mark75H got me going.
Thank you very much.

Very glad you joined Lars. I was like you in the beginning. Didn't even really know how to use a computer, much less post pictures. BRF has caused a lot of old timers to get new skills with regard to computers. Now 10 years later you have a lot of fabulous posts and stories we can all look back on.

Canadian and good friend Mark Rotharmel in the #11 Burgess/Evinrude F1-V8. Looks like the 1984 engine model.
My guess it is one of Roger Jenkins Carlsberg/Burgess boats.

Finally Evinrude Outboards have a new leader and the future looks bright again.
Most people know I was very disappointed with the old top management/marketing at BRP Evinrude Division.
The new leader for Evinrude Outboards is Tracy Crocker and he hit the ground running making changes since almost day one. The old Marketing guy is gone. Improving production quality is top priority and 10 year warranty.
Tracy and Krista Sparks is going to be a good team.
Please watch this video for Evinrude dealers.
