No, a Comp Jet is not a legal GN. They have their own class. Comp Jet now a legal class with APBA.

This was done in Raleigh and I tried to get the speed record and Thanksgiving points but was flat turned down.


The race at Havasu Landing will be the first APBA comp Jet race !!! Ted

#Salton Sea Comp Jet was under Special Event So no record under Endurance.
#Oroville Comp Jet is now under Endurance. So yes if a record is set it will count under Endurance.

Again, I'll paste this into a CJ thread. The class is dying as I type this....If the class is to survive this economy, anyone that wants to race their "river toy" should be welcomed with open arms......

Looks like the CJ class has shot it's self in the foot with their new rules. Requiring full stringers and stringer mounted seats has eliminated most, if not all, of the possible new additions to the class. This class was resurrected using basic "river toys", and now those very boats have been pushed out with rule changes. In the interest of SAFETY, ?? What?... Were there any issues involving 1/4 stringer boats? Any floor mounted seats create any problems? Seems this class is dead already, murdered by "certain" wannabe racers throwing a tizzy fit about the boats being raced at races they chose not to attend.....I say repeal the "stringer" rule and let the river toys back in. Sure, check the floor for rot, but a floor mounted seat should not prevent a boat from competition.....I'm sure the IE reps feel pretty silly after fighting so hard to get the class back into APBA national competition.....To CJ racers, if you don't want to race, fine, but don't crap on the the rest that do....Repeal the stringer rule, NOW......Even if it means filling the class with inferior performing river toys..Any class at all is better than no one showing up......Ray

And so the Comp Jet class dies?.....APBA doesn't consider NE/NJ when it looks at boat counts for CJ. You remember CJ, the resurrected NATIONAL class? If CJ doesn't get some boats to races soon it will be dead again. I'll ask again, has there been any issues concerning 1/4 stringer boats? When, Where, and which boat?..........The rule change had nothing to do with safety, and a lot to do with filling a class. Has there been ANY CJ races since the rule change?....Ray

Good points Ray, but the rule came about after a driver in a 1/4 stringer filler boat spun out, his seat came out of the floor, he got knocked out and had to go to the hospital, ended up with a concussion. Yes there have been CJ races since the rule went into effect:

Parker Thanksgiving 09

Since then, the field has been less than stellar, but most of the CJ guys are busy trying to make ends meet, there's no money to go racing. Isn't that what's up with the PS 89?

When was the rule implemented? I thought it was Parker for the 2010 season, or after that.......I seem to remember the seat issue, it was bolted through rotten wood if I recall. A simple inspection of the floor could solve that issue from future problems. My point is the class is cutting it's own throat by excluding possible participants based on "what might happen"......No skin off my nose if the class is declared dead by APBA, (they didn't really want it back anyway and the IE reps really went to bat for the guys that actually wanted to race)....But to purposely kill it with un necessary rules is wrong, and unfair to those that actually would rather race than go to the grocery store. You CAN live on Top Ramen and Corn Flakes..........:D...Ray

PS As far as the PS89, yes money is tight, but that wasn't the main reason for sitting out the 2010 season. There is another boat in the mix now, and its not quite ready to race....Long Beach is a very remote possibility, but I have a bunch of stuff on my plate right now and really need to concentrate on my new shop in Mohave Valley before summer,(115*), gets here.

Racing, to racers, is a drug, an addiction, and to watch any class die is like losing part of the family. I'm betting the class will be back on probation for 2011, and I doubt the IE reps will step up again if the class is allowed to fail.

Repel the stringer rules, welcome all comers, and just race .......

The rule went into effect directly after the Parker race in April 09, that's when the incident occured. As for the floor being rotten, I don't know if it was or wasn't, I just know the seat bolster ripped out and Gary had a bad day.

I still don't feel that the rule is unnecessary, obviously people believed it was or I don't think it would have went anywhere.

I'm with you on racing being a drug, some people get it, most don't.
