Marchetti hydro questions

I've purchased what I think is a Marchetti hydroplane. It's 12.6 long with a 1958 mk58 engine. Can anyone tell me some history and info about the boat? Is the Mark 58 too heavy for this size boat? What do I need? Also the boat has keller steering and Quincy deadmans throttle.29994

If the Mk58 has the standard gearshift lower unit, it is both too heavy and too big for the boat. If it has a Mk55H racing mid and lower, it is just right.

Are there any letters or numbers on the boat besides "70", and where are you located?

Looks to have a canvas deck. Marchetti's had a wood deck. Could be a Sid-Craft Hydro. I have a complete MK 55H that would go great on this "D" Hydro for sale....Bob N-96

Marchetti's had canvas decks up until 1968. Some time in 1969, Nick started making wood decks.

Definitely has deck lines & shallow sponsons to look like a Marchetti, but the cowl is way too high even for a Sid. Sid's sponsons & chine were all 45 degrees, Marchetti's were always less although Nick changed them regularly.

This one is very similar to a boat we got from Billie Hutchins back in the early 60's. It was built in South Florida and Billie set the C stock kilo record in it. The cowling and shallow sponsons look exactly as I remember but the cockpit sides are a slight bit shallower. Had some great AOH and BOH rides back then in it.

I'm with everybody else, and don't think it is a Marchetti. Plus the first big Marchetti was 12' even, a one-of-a-kind, built for Armand Hebert and then I bought it from Armand. Then he went to 12-2, then to 12-8. To my knowledge he never built a 12-6.

This boat could be home-built. I think Bell Craft had a big cowl somewhat like that.

I don't think that motor would work very good on that boat. It would be way too top heavy with the long gearshift lower unit. Wouldn't handle good at all and wouldn't be very fast.

Does a Byers have the low cockpit sides like that? The cowling might be a replacement............

I bought a Bell Craft from Fred H. at Depue a lot of years ago and that sure looks like one. The high cowl was the point that made me think of the Bell Craft from Marcelle.

Thanks guys for all the imput. I'll take somemore pictures so you can see it better..It's been so cold to mess with. I live in Memphis TN and bought here from a guy thats had it a warehouse for 15 years. It has a sticker on the dash that said Jamison Equipment Emmetsburg IA. He said he bought from Steve Deercup BlueWater Restoration in Emmetsburg? Could never get in touch with him. Then the trail went cold? I love the little boat and have never owned anything like this..looks like fun. I've always heard hold on and turn left!!!:eek:

I could be a Krier. While Ken Krier mostly built runabout I know he built a least one C-D Marchetti copy because he copied the dimensions of my 12' boat but made it longer. He also put a higher more rounded cowl on it. This could be the boat. It belonged to Barry Wilson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I'll see if I can find a picture of it and post it.

Not a Byers. Byers hydro's had a round nose.This boat has a pointed nose. I know that Byers built boat's in almost any style, but this is not one.

It might be a BellCraft, it does look a lot like my 12'6" Bellcraft that I ran in AOH back in 70-71.

Looking at it from that angle it is not a BellCraft, the Bellcraft's deck had more arch IIRC.

Yellow with blue numbers and trim: L-113! Well, maybe not. That Marchetti is newer than the ones we raced.

The cowling and deck look a little bit like a Schultz, although I've never seen one in person.

Harry Bartolomei's 1967 John Ward winning 500 CC Hydro was a Schultz, 13' 6" boat and everyone thought that boat was YUGE. I drove it for Harry and Fred Hauenstein drove a Bell Craft to second place, in Valleyfield, 1967.

I don't now what this boat is, but it is't a Bell Craft and it isn't s Schultz.

I remember seeing a cowling like that on a B Stock Hydro back when Jerry Combs lived in California, had a Navy Blue cloth deck, but it wasn't 12' 6" long.

Blue Water Restoration is in Milford, Iowa, not Emmetsburg... Steve Dyhrkopp is there? Phone: (712)338-2557 and could likely shed some light on the hydro (Marchetti?) in the beginning of this thread. I see the owner, SharkCrazy hasn't been on here since 2009, but maybe Ron Hill could email him??
