can you improve a 302 yamato

hi there guys im running 550 superspot class and have a stock yamato 302 with a high comp head , can you please tell me if you guys have been modifing the engne and hat has been proven to work , looking forward to your coments cheers jason

Honing the big end of the connecting rod to loosen it up has been proven to work. In the US, it is necessary to do to make a 302 equal to a 102.

..................oh really????? Seems there are quite a few 302 out here that have not had the rods honed and there are just as fast and faster as 102's..........

PS: BTW, if you do not have to conform to any rules or specs, there is a LOT that can be done to the 302 to make it faster!!! The motor is WAY over built and WAY restricted in its ability, but thats what makes it so damn reliable!!!!!

hi there guys here we have 550 super sport , which mean any modifacion are fine and any fuel s fine just no nitrous , the hull is open to any but must be over 9feet 6 . im running a ply hydro which weights about 30 kgs with out motor , any in put is welcome was think about tune pipes , ad stuff like that , very keen to learn more cheers jason

any mods...........then port it, shave the head, replace the restrictive reed setup and bolt on a bigger carb, then add some pipes, etc.........

This reminds me of the ol' RB (restricted B) days in the PRO division. Remember how fast they could get the Yamato 80 going? Mod the heck out of the motor, run it on methanol, and it would run around 80mph! :eek:

looks like Merc clamps too, the old model 80 clamp brackets only allowed an inch or so of jack up. You can go almost 2 inches with Merc barackets

the guys name is Lee Tietze (Machined Components). He makes complete kits to convert Yamato 102 and 302 motors to MOD. He also makes the best race boat hardware and TONS of custome race motor stuff!!

I used Merc clamps because they were cheaper and easier to use and allowed the powerhead to be lowered a little more than the Yamato clamps would allow...........plus, I gotta have something "MERC" in it............;););)
