Richard, is that the same one you obtained from the late Al Scopinich? I see that the picture had been deleted. Do you know what speed you are able to obtain with the 4 banger Chrysler?

Hi Al, yes its the same boat. I don`t know how to post a picture on the thread, only a link to my photobucket. With the 4 banger 105, I was able to get 62mphgps, but I had the motor tucked in too far. I as worried about the additional stern weight(35lbs heavier the the 3 holer. I`ll kick it out a notch next time, and see if it`ll do more. The weather turned bad so I didn`t have much testing time. I`m using the same prop but with some added diameter, added pitch, and cup. Engine runs 5800rpm. When I first tried it with the 4 banger and the prop the way it was with the 3 holer it would only run 50mph, and turned 6800rpm.LOL Anyone know what the weight of a 4-60 is that is supposed to be on this boat?

Hi Rich- I just saw a listing for the weight for as 4-60 at 132 lbs. I believe your 4 banger Chrysler is a bit heavier. Probably get ahold of Ralph DeSilva who is listed in the AOMC directory as to how this boat will handle the Chrysler. His phone number is in the directory. That is about the best I can tell you.

Thanks for the information Al, I`ll try to get in touch with Ralph. As far as the Chrysler 4 cyl, the powerhead weighs 130lbs, and the midsection and gearcase weigh 115 lbs., that's 257lbs. quiet a a bit more than a 4-60. The 3 cylinder is only 30 lbs. lighter. The boat is very stern heavy at rest, but seems to run good at speed. I`m sure the boat is strong enough, and haven't had any control problems, but I have been running it a little tucked in to avoid lower speed porpoising. Runs 62mph. I know they run inline 6 Mercs on these boats on the West Coast, they ain't too lite either. and I believe are running in the 90's.

An inline 6 trimmed down for racing on the west coast weighs about 125-135 pounds ... I have more than one :)

The DeSilva's were great boat builders!

Was working on a 150 Stacker that was ported, milled head, 4-carb intake, but sold all my Chrysler stuff to Bob Dunlop last year.

I built that motor .....it was owned by Steve Cox at the time. He wanted to go faster than his stock Merc 800 did....60 MPH.:) When done the Merc 100 with stacks and some slight port work gave good results. But the boat did not ride weel. He sent the prop I gave him to DeWald for a Tweeking and that helped. Then Steve got the trim rite and it ran 80 MPH.:) I ran that motor before Steve picked it up on a Hydostream Vector. On a long shaft 2/1 gearcase. It HURT my EARS. Like a Mk 20 H.;) Times 6:D On the L4 chilzzer I would just Squar the exhaust ports. Then bevel.

Dave, You and I talked about the motor some time ago. The rig was fast (don't know how fast) but it had a lot more in it that I never got figured out. I sold the rig to a very good friend in NY and we will get it figured out. It revs very well with not much load but doesn't go much above 4500 when on the course. Not sure if its timing, jetting, or the prop. It is definitely rich. Have tried several Merc ignition (Gen IV) boxes and even went to a full CDI replacement. That wasn't it. I was real careful when I replaced the flyweel (cracked) not to mess up the timing. Set it with a dial indicator, so I'm quite sure that is right. Just haven't had time to mess with the jetting or prop. It's a whole lot more motor than Pete Delachner used to run on the boat. He ran a 650 4-cylinder mod motor. Nice job on the motor!!!

thank you Dave and Roger for some tangible info to help with my De Silva replica project.
In fact, RDS gave a speed prediction of 80 to 90mph for my project boat. And, by the way, it was a photo of C7 taken I think at the Muscatine boat show some 5 years ago, which motivated me to start the project, after Roy Hodges interpreted it as being a "flat deck" De Silva.

Wolfgang, How is your Chrysler project coming along, Its been a while since we contacted each other. I think I`ve made some good prop and carb progress, but it will be March till I will test. Weathers to cold now, even in Central Fl.

Hi Rich, thanks for asking. The project is moving at snail`s pace, for a number of personal reasons. Will be picking up again once building activities on the house are completed. Successfully started in new position last year September, however wife`s cancer has returned.
Regarding the jetting, in `67 we had to ream the jets out to 0.1" to give it enough fodder with the standard carbs. That`s one of the reasons why I am switching to OMC twin throats.
