Special thanks to Jack Strickland for providing his home movies from the event. Dale Littlejohn supplied some awesome stacker audio that brings the race to life. Joe Fielder provided invaluable input with the official program, entry lists and Powerboat Magazine articles.

Cool pictures, but have a question.

You called the evinrude motors X-115's several times, and I know the pics are blurred, but, I could swear I saw the Strangler or later style 3 clamp hoods.

The X-115 was the old and in my opinion prettiest motor hood, rounded, with a trap door in the front, and bungies holding them down because they only had one clamp up front.........

Am I missing something here?

You are correct, Skoontz, by 1969 OMC had changed the names

There were several straglers of the X-115/GT-115 even through the 80's, they used them in some class that was not real popular, so, they could have run, but doubtful the factory boys were running them...

Incredible shots!!!!!! I remember so many of the boats and late drivers, Bill Muncey, Rudy Ramos to mention a couple. I was there in '71 those were the glory days of OPC and of outboard racing. So many boats, and memories!! The one thing I really don't remember is the triple OMC Jones! I don't remember ever hearing of any such thing! GREAT photos!!

I notice in the second row, first photo. It is a DelCraft but looks like #200. Looks to be a smaller DelCraft than Walter Crane's #880. But can't tell for sure. Do you have any info the fuel injected Mercury Stacker?

Walt wanted a Molinira type Del craft. It is the only one Ron ever made . The fuel injection was an idea that Al Gonzoles had that he thought would work on an outboard , and it did. Al's son died shortly after this race from chocking on a piece of meat and Al never followed up on his fuel injection systom . There is people out there that know much more then me and I am trying to get them on BRF.Ted Alesna is the one that needs to have imput here. Roy , you need to get him on here for his histery .
