there would be enough room for my brain bucket in the boat.

If you plan to push this with your "44", may I suggest a 12'' diameter prop with 1" pitch!

My 1931 Chris Craft, I raced this boat in the 50-60 tys. I still own the boat registered in Vintage and Historical. Powered by 460 Ford still runs 65 + mph.
