Very interesting indeed John. I had heard parts of that before, but not the whole story as you just told it.

All our pit crew pay....nobody works for Hill Marine for free. I will cost you to work. First race in Havasu Landing in February. You some come out with your motor home, see Jimbo and come to the race. Gamble a few bucks in the casino to make our sponsors happy.
If you want to drive a COR 2.0 I'll have you a boat. Havasu Landing Resort and Casino is on the CALIFORNIA side of the lake.
Ron,
Let me think about that..
It is time for me to visit you and your area again.
Last time we parked the motor home by Jimbo´s house
but I guess he has a new place now.
Well..I sold the motorhome..flying sounds better..
I just found some photos of the 1976 factory Burgess OE boat
raced by my friend Bo Nilsson and me in Paris 6 hours same year
Paul Kalb asked me to rig this brand new Burgess OE boat
and race it in Paris 6 hours 1976.
( #47)
My friend Bosse Nilsson helped me and was the co-pilot.
We spent many days before the race in Bruges testing and hanging out
with fun wild Americans.:) One of them was Barry Woods...
Yes..we tested lots of new props on the river next to the OMC boat house in Bruges..
The best and fastest props was always the ones made by famous
Hill Marine.
We picked one that had thicker blades..maybe not the quickest
but lots of debris in the river Seine.. thicker blades made them last better.
Long story short..we was many laps ahead of second place boat after 5 hours..
but engine problems forced us to park on the trailer before 5.00 PM.
Yes..I am the little one sitting in the cook pit before start..11.AM
PS. This was the first and only race I used a Johnson..
Well..Evinrude never made me disappointed!!:)
PS 2..
The #42 boat last picture is John Hill..
As an OMC dealer and loyal racer I most of the time said
that the reason for not finish a race was newer the engine.
Always something else..:p
35 years later I think I can tell the true reason for not finish..
I think it is a Scotti OE boat with a stock Evinrude 75hp Hustler with
standard shifting gear case (nitro). Model year 1975.
Looks like a German flag on the boat..
Do not really remember who the driver was..
Pretty sure the photo is from 1975.
EDIT..No..that is not a German flag..can not figure out that flag.
Belgium colors.. but at the wrong place.
This is from 1975.. 2 hour race outside Stockholm, Sweden
My Clerici SE cat with the Evinrude 75 Hustler Stock outboard
shifting "Nitro" gear case.
Very fun and good race..
Lots of boats, mixed.. inboards and outbords
