Also note, he's wearing the Nordskog anti-bucketing helmet.
Nice natural wood on the tunnel John. June of 1971 and the last race for the big factory boats with the stacks. After this race the Mercury's no longer ran the open exhaust. Another photo of John Schubert at speed with the big Johnson . Bob

Vic Edelbrock...
Lou won Parker in '67 and '68...Louie Unser Ford motors...
Jake is Jerry Gilbreath's dad..You know Jerry, throttleman for Alcone Motorsports.
What I was looking for was a picture of Don Pruitt...He won Elsinore in 1969 with a triple Jones....But not the One in Bob's pictures... The one you have pictures of, I think, was the one Jim Mertins won Galveston, Texas with and Mercury never ran it again, only twins....
Pruitt had set his motors, all three, back a foot and this helped carry the bow...when he finished Elsinore, one engine had broken its steering and was just flopping in the breeze.....most would have stopped to fix it, Pruitt just kept going an was the first outboarder to win a combined marathon..
